Enjoying a Crater Lake sunrise

Tell me, where should I go?

Julie Polhemus climbs mountains, writes, paints, and parents in Oregon, where the volcanoes loom large and the summers stretch on forever (although she’s not supposed to tell you that). You can find her hand-drawn maps in Stark: The Life and Wars of John Stark, which was researched and written by her dear uncle and dad. She instructs field and wilderness medicine courses for NOLS and ski patrols with Willamette Backcountry and Willamette Pass Ski Patrols. Today, she is either hiking a trail, skiing through the trees, putting pen or paint to paper on her next creative endeavor, or playing Carcassone with her kids. She dreams of being paid by Outside magazine to climb in the Isle of Skye's Cuillin Mountains and write about and photograph her ensuing escapade.
